Peter Howard has added a letter to clubs
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The season is now properly underway and the long wait for me from my election in March to finally beginning to act in the role of Council Member is finally over. May I say a big thank you to all those clubs and committee members that voted for me and all those people who, individually, expressed their support. To every club, but more especially those that did not vote for me for whatever reason, please be assured that I shall try my utmost to support and assist all Leicestershire clubs (not just those that voted for me) in the coming season and to support the interests of the County as a whole.
May I thank Malcolm Ross for all his work over many years - his effort will be hard to follow.
Some of you will know already that the LRU is working hard to improve it's website offering; to make that more modern and user friendly. I have asked for a page on the new website, dedicated to the role of Council Member ,where I can keep you updated with all that is being discussed and decided at Twickenham and what I am doing and when. I hope that will include a calendar so that you may see when I am free and, if you'd like me to attend a match, meeting or some other event at your club you will be able to see when I am likely to be available. As I did last season I shall continue to visit local clubs at weekends to watch games and chat to committee members and club members alike. Please look out for me and make yourselves known.
Although the RFU require the election of Council Members to be concluded by the end of March each year, newly elected members do not officially take office until 1 August; so there was a good deal of frustrated toe tapping from me in the intervening months as I waited to get started! that frustration was tempered a little when Malcolm invited me to attend the last Council meeting of his tenure, in his place, in June. That having been said, I haven't been idle in the intervening months; on the contrary I have tried to make myself available for as many meetings and matches as possible with many more already in the calendar for the rest of the season. Here are the highlights:
